SKILLMAN, NJ –Hunter College men's tennis standout
Yevgeny Perepelov has been named to the 2012 Division III ITA All-America Team as announced by the ITA. The distinction makes Perepelov the CUNYAC's first four-year college All-American in the sport of tennis for either men or women.
Perepelov—a CUNYAC First Team All-Star, finished the season with a 8-0 mark in overall singles play and 6-3 record in doubles play to wrap up the 2012 season. In the fall, Perepelov became the first player in Hunter College history to win a USTA/ITA Fall Regional Tournament as he claimed the championship with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Oliver Loutsenko of host Skidmore College 6-4, 7-6 (4) in Sarasota Springs.
“This is huge for our team and for our program,” said Head Coach
Eric Metzger. “Yevgeny is one of our hardest workers and his efforts in the fall really helped prepare him for this season. It's an amazing distinction but one he's completely deserving of,” Metzger added.
"Yev is making his mark here at Hunter, but i feel like the best is yet to come! He has a great opportunity to succeed at the highest level this upcoming 2012-13 tennis season," remarked Metzger, adding, "Yevgeny is very talented and we would like him to accomplish our 2013 team goal of advancing at the NCAA national tournament and his individual goals of winning an ITA championship, a small college National Championship, and an individual National Championship."
Perepelov and Hunter wrapped up the season with a 9-7 record overall, including a 5-2 record in the CUNYAC where the Hawks finished second in the CUNYAC/HSS Men's Tennis Championships.
