Indianapolis, IN – The CUNYAC Women's Tennis Champions Hunter Hawks, received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships and will take on the Elizabethtown Blue Jays at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10
th at Williams College in Williamstown, MA announced by the NCAA on May 6
th .
Hunter will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second, and third rounds played at Williams College, May 10-12. Kalamazoo College will host the team championship finals, which will be held May 20-22. Student-athletes selected to an individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 8
th.
The Hawks are paired up with Elizabethtown (16-3), Ithaca (15-5), Colby-Sawyer (18-4), Tufts (8-9), and host Williams (18-4) in their bracket. Hunter advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the last two seasons. Last year, Hunter defeated Penn-State Behrend in the first round before falling to John Hopkins in the second round.
The Hawks won their 13
th straight CUNYAC title last October defeating the College of Staten Island 5-1. Hunter finished the season as regular season champions with a record of 12-3, 7-1 CUNYAC record. Their opponent, Elizabethtown just won their fourth straight Commonwealth Conference Championship this past weekend defeating Lebanon Valley 5-1. It will mark the first meeting between the Hawks and Blue Jays.
