Bronx, NY – Earlier this afternoon, after finishing as the runner up over the last four season, the men's cross country team claimed their first CUNYAC Championship since 2012 and the 16th in program history. Additionally, the Hawks had the individual race winner in freshman
Brian Guillermo; the first since 2016 when current Head Coach
Walter Rodriguez took the crown. Hunter won both men's and women's races on the day, the first time both teams have won the championship in the same season since 2011.
Guillermo competed for the entire 8,000 meter race and edged out Brooklyn's Shane Kimball by three seconds to take top honors. His time of 28:38 is Hunter's fastest time on the challenging Van Cortlandt Park course since 2014. For his efforts, he was named the Championship MVP. Hunter's top-four runners all finished in the top-10 with
Robert Novo rounding out the scoring five with a strong 12
th place finish.
As a team, the Purple and Gold ran away with the team title, finishing with just 32 points; 21 points ahead of second place Baruch.
